Welcome to Chestnuts Primary School

We are a two form entry Primary School with 60 spaces per year group.  Most year groups are full but we hold a waiting list.

Milton Keynes Council manages all admissions to the school including first time school placements and in year transfers.  If you are considering Chestnuts Primary School for your child, then we recommend that you contact our school office to arrange a tour  before completing your application forms. We can also then advise you as to current year group/place vacancies within the school.

Admissions appeals for places in Reception in September 2026

Following National Offer Day on Tuesday, 16th April 2026, if you named Chestnuts Primary School as one of your preferences and were unsuccessful, you have a right to appeal against the decision to an independent appeal panel. Please email office@chestnutsprimary.co.uk to request an appeal form.

Starting Reception:  Deferring or Delaying Your Child's Start

Most children start school in the September after their 4th birthday, but they do not have to attend school full-time until the start of the term after their 5th birthday.
Deferring Your Child’s Start (Same School Year)
Parents may choose to delay their child’s start within the Reception year:
  • Start in January or April instead of September
  • Attend part-time initially
Your child must start full-time by the term after their 5th birthday and will still move to Year 1 with their age group
How to Make a Request
  1. Contact the school and Milton Keynes City Council Admissions Team
  2. Submit a written request explaining your reasons
  3. Include any relevant information about your child
  4. You will receive a formal decision
  5. You must still apply through the normal admissions process
Summer-Born Children (April–August)
Starting Reception at Age 5
If your child was born between 1 April and 31 August, you may request that they:
Start Reception a year later (at age 5) instead of starting Year 1
This is called being educated outside their normal age group.
Important Information

    • This is not automatic – a request must be made
    • Each case is considered individually
    • As an academy, the decision is made by the Academy Trust (admission authority)
    • Decisions are based on the best interests of the child
