School uniform

Ordering your school uniform

Our school uniform is available to order from our supplier Nationwide School Uniforms and can be ordered via their website.

At Chestnuts Primary, we are proud of our school uniform and it is an expectation that all children attending will wear the approved school uniform with pride. Our school uniform must be worn when attending school, on school trips or when representing the school unless instructed otherwise. ‘Choose your attitude’ is one of our Chestnuts Ways and we firmly believe that together, if we empower our children to take care and pride in their appearance, this will set them up for a positive learning day.

How to Purchase

Our uniform is of high quality, smart, durable and provides value for money. All items can be purchased from our supplier Nationwide School Uniforms and can be ordered via their website; however, many items are easily available, at very competitive prices, at local shops including supermarkets. We do not hold any uniform to buy in school.

Footwear

For health and safety reasons, we do not allow children to wear shoes with platform soles or high heels. All children are required to wear plain black shoes without logos as stated in the uniform list. If boots are worn, these should also be plain black. Please avoid large boots which prevent your child from sitting comfortably on the floor.

Jewellery

For many reasons, including health and safety, we ask that children do not wear jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are a wristwatch (not a SMART watch) and small stud earrings in pierced ears, which should be removed during PE or covered with tape if this is not an option. Please note: Teachers are not permitted to remove earrings.

Make Up and Nail Varnish

Make up and nail varnish or fake nails should not be worn to school. Pupils will be given a baby wipe to remove any visible makeup and parents will be contacted to discuss the matter.

The Role of Parents

We ask all parents to support Chestnuts School Uniform Policy by sending their child to school in clean, labelled clothing which is in good repair and follows policy along with the correct equipment needed for their day. If a parent has difficulties for any reason with fulfilling this request, they are encouraged to speak to a senior member of staff or our family support worker to discuss the issues and together find a solution. Parents should be assured that we will do all we can to help. Children who arrive at school wearing non-school uniform clothing may be loaned an appropriate item from our lost property to wear for that day if possible. The same system will apply for children who do not have a PE kit. Parents will be contacted to discuss the matter. The school welcomes children from all backgrounds and faith communities therefore if there are serious reasons, for example on religious grounds, why parents want their child to wear clothes that differ from the school uniform, they must inform the Headteacher for consideration.
